I love brownies, but I have a bit of a confession to make. When it comes to making them, my favourite recipe is one that has been tested more times than I could ever count, and as long as the directions are followed correctly, it turns out the same way every time. Are you ready for my secret? Betty Crocker Chocolate Brownie mix. I have no shame in admitting that I buy a box to make my brownies, and while I think that it’s the only box mix I buy for anything, there’s just something about boxed brownies that I don’t even try to duplicate. As Halloween approaches, I wanted to make a fun festive treat for my biggest sprinkle to take to school with her, and these Halloween brownies were not only super fun for her to help with, but they’ve been a huge hit as far as her lunches go. To amp up this mix, although it really doesn’t need amping up, I made a super simple chocolate ganache to add once the brownies are baked to give all the goodies something to stick to.
The Bulk Barn is our favouite bulk foods store here in Canada, and we were able to purchase small quantities of all of the elements that went into decorating theses treats, including the exact amount of chocolate to make the ganache.
Before adding the candied pumpkins, I cut them in half so that they would sit nicely on the brownies.
Little fingers were perfect for adding our Halloween Sprinkle Mix and my biggest sprinkle loved helping create her lunchtime sweets. The sprinkles were the last thing we added to these brownies.
Once decorated, we put these babies in the fridge to set the ganache for at least an hour before cutting. After making these, the hardest part was waiting the hour before being able to try them.
